Consider this a follow up to our post from April titled “Who Has Been the Best New Artist of 2021 (So Far)“. Now that the year is basically over, we can crown a true champion.
Before we choose a winner, let’s talk about the nominees.
Mora
The winner of our early 2021 Award, Mora has been a revelation this year. His debut album Primer Dia De Clases was an impressive start to his career. His follow up tracks over the year have been equally as impressive. While he already appears to be pretty polished, he clearly has a lot of potential to keep rising.
Nicki Nicole
The Argentinian singer had a pretty big year. She released her album Parte De Mi. She also released a ton of great singles. Nicole showed a lot of range with pop hits, reggaeton tracks, and even a rock song. There’s a lot to like from Nicki Nicole and I imagine in 2022, she’ll continue to rise and her star will grow.
Marc Segui
Segui basically came out of nowhere as far as I’m concerned. I knew nothing about him until I heard the “Tiroteo” Remix with Rauw Alejandro. That quickly jumped up the list to one of the best songs of 2020. While “Tiroteo (Remix)” was crushing it, Segui dropped his single “360” which is an certified hit. What a year for the Spanish singer.
Mariah Angeliq
Mariah is another new artist with one of the best songs of the year. Her appearance with Karol G on “El Makinon” was huge. She appeared a number of great tracks in the beginning of the year like “El Makinon” and “Afuego”. She faded toward the later half of the year, not releasing a lot of music for the last few months of 2021. I expect a lot of great music from her in 2022.
Blessd
A really late entry into our list here. Blessd popped when Maluma hopped on the remix of his track “Impossible” earlier this year. He followed up on that banger with his own EP that was pretty solid. Since he’s arguably the newest artist on this list, it’s hard to really judge him and give him the award just yet.
Winner – Mora
This was a tough one but Mora wins our award. He’s quickly rose up through the ranks of reggaeton. He’s released a ton of great music all year long. His new releases are must listens whenever they drop. Congrats to Mora, Pa La Cultura’s 2021 New Artist of the Year!
