New Music Friday 1/7 – First of the Year

Welcome back to New Music Friday! This is our first post of 2022 and we have plenty to talk about.

This week we have new music from Sebastian Yatra, Nicki Nicole, Tiago PZK, Lenny Tavarez, Justin Quiles, and plenty more!

Without further ado, let’s get after it.

Amor Pasajero – Sebastian Yatra

While not as good as “Tacones Rojos”, this song still gives me a lot of hope for Yatra’s upcoming album. While not a greatest hit for the Colombian, this is the solid kind of release that makes me think his upcoming album is going to be filled with bangers. Solid track worth the listen.

Entre Nosotros (Remix) – Tiago PZK, LIT Killah, Maria Becerra, Nicki Nicole

The first major remix of the year is here. Tiago PZK, fresh off of his Bizarrap session, gives us a pretty solid track here. Nicki Nicole, one of the best new artists of 2022, puts in a great performance here especially. If we’re being honest, I think she runs away with this track. For a relatively light New Music Friday, this is a pretty solid track.

La Pared 720 – Lenny Tavarez, Justin Quiles, Randy, Brray, De La Ghetto

A remix to Tavarez’s “La Pared 360”, this track adds some heavy hitters. De La Ghetto is a legend for a reason and hopping on remixes like this are a big reason why. This song was already pretty solid to begin with and adding in some extra verses is just icing on the cake. Very good stuff.

Carta Pal Primo 3 – J Alvarez

J Alvarez fell off big time over the last few years. This is definitely the best stuff he’s put out in a long time. This is a very good freestyle. I wasn’t expecting something like this from the Puerto Rican rapper. This might just be the best release of this New Music Friday.

Se Va a Beber – Lirow, Grupo Extra

So let me start by saying that I do generally like this song. I think it’s a fun take on bachata and is a new sound. Now, that being said, I don’t know that hopping on the guaracha trend is an effective way to make a bachata track. It doesn’t really work as well as one might think it would. It theoretically could work but not here. Not bad but less than the sum of it’s parts.

El dia menos pensado – Beret

This is a pretty middle of the road ballad from Beret. It’s not bad but it’s also not really worth multiple listens.

Aqui Seguimos – Yubeili, Snow Tha Product, Eix

Not memorable but I don’t think it’s bad, if that makes sense. Allow me to demonstrate. I listened to this song, didn’t hate it, but have no recollection of it as I sit here and right about it 2 minutes later. That should sum it up.
