Happy Throwback Thursday. Hope you’re enjoying the nice summer weather. This week we’re talking about Pablo Ruiz, an Argentinian singer who rose to prominence in the 1980s.
Ruiz was born in 1975 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Ruiz was a young star, coming to prominence when he was just 14 years old. He became a star in Latin America throughout the late 80s and early 90s. Over the course of his career, he’s released 12 albums. His career has been much slower since the end of 1990s and his musical output his really decreased. Ruiz made the news in 2010 when, after Ricky Martin came out as gay, Ruiz reveled he kissed Martin at a party when they were both young.
This week’s song is “Orgullosa Nena” whoch came off of his 1988 album. Pablo Ruiz was known for his hits just like this. This is very much a goofy 1980s pop track. Generally speaking, they really don’t make tracks like this anymore. This is a very innocent and silly song. The lyrics are a story of a boy who finds himself entrapped by a girl but she’s too proud to give in to him. She proudly passes by him and doesn’t even give him a second chance. Despite being put off, the singer can’t stop himself. This is like a do-wop pop song from the 50s which somehow makes it very 80s. It’s worth the listen.
From 1988, “Orgullosa Nena”.
