2021 has been a massive year for new music and new artists so far. We’ve had a lot of great new artists, albums, and songs through the first few months of this year.

Who has been the best new artist of 2021 so far? Let’s debate.

Mora

If I had to guess, this is who Bad Bunny would vote for.

I can’t say I can disagree with him. Mora’s debut album Primer Dia De Clases was a powerful opener (read our review here). Three of the tracks off this album are definitely going to be some of my most listened to songs of 2021. He has collabs with Jhay Cortez, Lunay, and Farruko this year alone. That’s a hell of a year.

Nikki Nicole

So far, Nikki Nicole’s biggest tracks of the year have been Ella No Es Tuya – Remix and No Toque Mi Naik. Those aren’t small achievements. Ella No Es Tuya (Remix) is one of my favorite new songs of the year and one of the songs of the summer. No Toque Mi Naik with Lunay is also a bop. Nikki Nicole will defeinitely be appearing in more tracks this year and we can’t wait to see what’s next.

Khea

Khea has been around for a bit but is only really coming into his own musically now. Tu Msj </3 showed a different side for the Argentinian trap artist, showing his ability to master rock. His song with Rita Ora Mood is another great crossover track. His musical range is becoming more and more apparent with every single he appears on. He’s a very strong contender for best new artist of the year.

Mariah Angeliq

Mariah made her debut on Anuel’s 2020 album Emmanuel with the track Bandido. Her stock has only risen dramatically since. This year she has appeared on Mora’s album as well as Karol G’s new album. Her music video with Karol G for El Makinon is, well, something else. I’ll go out on a limb and say it’s the best music video of the year so far. (Karol G in the Braylon Edwards jersey is a hell of a look). She’s also put out Reggaeton de Antes with Ecko which is a good song as well.

The Verdict?

At the end of the day, as of now, the Best New Artist of 2021 title has to go to Mora. Primer Dia De Clases is a fantastic album that I’ve had on repeat since it came out. Khea comes in a close second, showing himself as a cross-genre superstar and a prime candidate to crossover into the American market. Nikki Nicole and Mariah Angeliq are certainly big names to watch as well.
