It’s New Music Friday once again and we are here with all the hits. The big theme of this week is new artists making an impact. Namely, we have great new songs from KHEA, Marc Segui, and Blessd. We also have a new Lele Pons track. Other artists making the cut this week include Maluma, Alicia Keys, Nicky Jam, Rauw Alejandro, Danny Ocean and more.
Without further ado, let’s get it.
Imposible (Remix) – Blessd, Maluma
Maluma returns to his reggaeton roots here with Blessd. I haven’t heard of Blessd before but I like my introduction to him here. This is good straightforward reggaeton track that gives us the urban sound that Maluma occasionally strays from.
Loco – Justin Quiles, Chimbala, Zion & Lennox
A light dembow track. This is a fun song for the summer. It doesn’t have much crossover potential but that doesn’t mean that the right crowd won’t have plenty of fun with this song.
Te Necesito – KHEA, Maria Becerra
KHEA remains on a tear this year. We talked about his potential in our post about the best new artist of 2021 (which you can read here). This song is another notch in his belt. I’m a big fan of this track. The way the reggaeton beat echoes beneath the talents of KHEA and Becerra adds a wonderful element to the song. Highly recommend it
Mentiras – Marc Segui
Speaking of new artists making an impact, Marc Segui is here. He might just mess around and make the final ranking for the best new artist of 2021. Tiroteo (Remix) is one of my favorite songs of 2021 and this song just made an entry on the list. Segui brings a totally unique sound to the Latin game. There’s an urban/R&B marriage on this track and let me tell you, I love it.
Al Lau – Lele Pons
Can we even consider Lele Pons a new artist at this point? She’s put out a bunch of songs and a decent number, including this one, are pretty solid. This isn’t a song that I’ll put on all the time, but it’s definitely a track to work into the rotation. Give Lele Pons credit, she’s gone from internet celebrity to real-world musical artist.
Besarnos de Cero – Danny Ocean
One of the most inventive artists in the game, Danny Ocean always gives us something memorable when he steps up to the mic. This isn’t a song that will go up there with Me Rehuso or Pronto or any of his other hits but it’s a very good song overall. I am certainly looking forward to whatever album he puts out next.
Underdog (Remix) – Alicia Keys, Nicky Jam, Rauw Alejandro
Call me biased but this song is all about Nicky Jam and Rauw Alejandro. These two jump on the remix with Alicia (who is no stranger to Latin music) and completely own the song. It’s impressive really. Their verses are great and bring the song from mediocre to memorable.
Fragancia – Juhn, Jay Wheeler
Things you love to see, Juhn making music and Jay Wheeler making music. These two are a good combo here. They give us a fun mid-tempo reggaeton track that’s a solid addition to both of their discographies.
Millionario (Remix) – Messiah, Nicky Jam, Ozuna
As Latin trap exploded, Messiah really got the raw end of the deal. Messiah was, at one point, the trailblazer in Trap. He was huge and highly influential. Lately, he’s kind of disappeared, only to occasionally put out tracks like this. This is a good remix that belongs on everyone’s playlists. I hope this is the beginning of Messiah’s comeback tour.
Te Reto – Alexis y Fido, Yandel
An old school reggaeton track. This song is a welcome addition to this week’s releases. It’s a good track to remind you that even though the new dogs are killing it, the old guard still has some sway.
