CNCO’s fervent fanbase, known as CNCOwners, has clearly been waiting for this album for a long time. Their new album Deja Vu is filled with covers of some of the most iconic songs in Latin music history.

Songs like Enrique Iglesias’s Hero, Ricardo Montaner’s Tan Enamorados, Chayanne’s Dejaria Todo and others find new life in this album. Amongst the highlights of this production are Por Amarte Asi, El Amor de mi Vida, and Un Beso. It’s abundantly clear that a lot of care went into each of these songs, many of which are favorites of CNCO’s members. Songs like El Amor de mi Vida benefit from the fresh coat of paint and soft reggaeton beat that the group adds. Un Beso also benefits heavily from this new baseline. These interpretations don’t stand on their own as much as CNCO may have hoped but they still stand as quality tracks.

It’s important to remember that the ceiling is only so high for cover albums. It is incredibly rare that covers overtake the originals. While covers have overtaken their originals in some instances, I don’t hear any evidence of that happening here. There’s a cool nostalgic feeling that comes from hearing CNCO cover songs you were raised on like Hero but if I’m in the mood to hear those songs, I’m going to Enrique Iglesias. Ultimately, this album can serve as an entry point into some of these classic songs and artists.

Overall, CNCO delivers some quality covers in Deja Vu. The album can serve as a good entry point into some classic tunes. Being a cover album, this was never going to be one of their best albums but it’s a decent listen and fun experiment.
