Now that we’re back blogging, we figured it’s time to drop a part 2 to our original Sad Boy Season playlist (refresh your memory here). These are some more essentials for your fall Sad Boy Season playlist.

Amor Eterno – Rocio Ducal

This may be one of the saddest songs ever written in Spanish. I don’t know how I missed this Sad Boy Season essential in the first edition. Written by Juan Gabriel about the death of his mother when he was 13, this is a brutal listen. Lines like, “I have suffered so much for your absence, From that day until today I am not happy, And although my conscience is clear, I know I could have done more for you” are devastating. Durcal’s poignant and passionate rendition rattles your heart every time you hear it. This is a song you should only listen to if you need to cry.

Dejame Llorar – Ricardo Montaner

An absolute classic. A perfect track for a breakup. Also, with lyrics like, “so many autumns with you, and without you, Millions of leaves, Falling into your body, Autumns of tears” is this literally perfect for the fall. Let yourself cry to this one.

Solamente Una Vez – Luis Miguel

The line between romantic and sadness is a fine one. While this song was included on Miguel’s Segundo Romance, the lyrics are more evocative of a time, and love, lost. Only one time, was there a love that lit up the sky with hope. Maybe my reading of that as sad speaks to my situation.

Ojala Te Duela – Pepe Aguilar, Marc Anthony

A very new but very worthy addition to this list. This is a great track to get out all of those emotions you’re feeling towards your ex. It’s cathartic to tell them that you hope what they’re feeling hurts and that they deserve it. You hope they feel the pain you feel. They should share in the heartache. Have a few Coronas and sing this at your next barbecue with all of the heartbroken cousins and tios.

Ya Acabo – Marca MP, Becky G

Another relatively new addition, this song is an acknowledgement of the end of love. It’s a sad realization that the beauty, fun, and excitement of a relationship has ended and it’s time to move on. The echo effect on the track really gives this a beautiful and melancholic feeling that brings it to the next level. It feels like the echo of a love that was once there but now only exists in memory. A necessity for anyone at the end of their relationship.

Corazon Partio – Alejandro Sanz

Another essential that I’m not sure how I missed. This is a song that gets people invested, despite how sad it is. It’s a universal track of broken hearts and lost love. It’s also a fantastic pick for karaoke. Everyone knows the lyrics and Sanz has the ability to make individual heartbreak feel like a shared experience, even with a group.

I would also be remiss if I did not include this flamenco version I came across on Instagram. Awesome stuff. Give it a listen.

There you have it for now. What did we miss and what should we include in the next edition? Leave a comment and let us know.
