For the first time in 7 years, we have a new Enrique Iglesias album. Enrique has been quiet since releasing 2014’s Sex and Love, releasing singles from time to time. Enrique has also claimed that this might be his last album, hence the title Final (Vol 1).
Calling this a new album might be a bit of a stretch though. There are 11 tracks but 6 of the songs are singles that have been released as long ago as 2015. Really we only have 5 new songs here. I have a lot of mixed feelings on this.
The positive way to look at this is to see that the album is chock full of bonafide hits. “El Perdon”, “El Baño”, and “Duele el Corazon” are some of the best songs released in their respective years and some of the best Enrique has ever released. Hell, “Duele el Corazon” is one of my favorite songs ever. If you don’t know anything about Latin music and are just getting into it, this album might be one of the greatest ever released just based on the track listing.
However, most listeners probably know and expect a bit more than that. We can talk about each new song here because there are so few of them. “Chasing the Sun”, “Te Fuiste”, and “Unwell” are all good songs. “Te Fuiste” is probably the best of the new batch. “Pendejo” and “All About You” aren’t bad songs by any means but they aren’t going to get you going.
There really isn’t much more to say beyond that. This album is a major disappointment in the fact that it feels like an EP is being passed off as an LP. I hope Final (Vol 2) brings us more than just 5 new songs, whenever it comes out.
Final Thoughts
With Final (Vol 1), Enrique Iglesias gives us some of the best songs of his career but very little new material. Passing off singles from 2015 as new music in 2021 does not change the greatness of the song but it cheapens the album. As a product released in 2021, Final (Vol 1) offers too little new music to deserve a high rating. Here’s to hoping for more in Volume 2.
6.7/10
