Justin Quiles is back with his latest album La Ultima Promesa. This is the 5th studio album from Quiles and his first since 2019’s Realidad. This is the third album in a “trilogy” as described by Quiles.

On La Ultima Promesa, Quiles collaborates with artists like Daddy Yankee, Maluma, Rauw Alejandro, Chris Marshall, Dalex, Lenny Tavarez, Sech, and others. The song has been supported by a number of singles over the last few months. The singles off La Ultima Promesa include “PAM”, “Jeans”, “Loco”, and my favorite “Ponte Pa Mi”. “PAM” and “Ponte Pa Mi” were decently successful and big enough hits in their own right.

Among the best songs on the album are “Quitate Eso”, “Colorin Colorado”, “La Botella”, and “Textos Sucios”. “Quitate Eso” is the perfect opener for this album. It perfectly captures the unique sound that Quiles consistently gives us. Many of the songs on this album follow that same vibe, to differing levels of success. “La Botella” the latest single released in support of the album is one of the better songs on the album. Maluma really takes the opportunity to kill his verses.

Of the songs that were on the forgettable side for me were “Contradiccion”, “Se Te Olvido”, and “Apreton”. I wouldn’t argue that any of these songs are necessarily bad. Some people may really like them. For me, however, they’re pretty forgettable. They don’t provide a lot to go back to.

That brings me to the general issue with this album. There are plenty of good songs but there aren’t a lot of “great” songs. There aren’t many songs that I’ll skip on this album but there aren’t a ton that I will go back to. There’s quality here but enough to make this a great album? Probably not.

Final Thoughts

This isn’t a massive breakout album for Justin Quiles but it’s still another very solid entry in his discography. This album is everything it needed to be to keep Quiles’s spot secure. There are a number of songs that jump out as very good but nothing that really blows any minds. It’s a good album, but that’s about it’s ceiling.

7.6/10
