Death. Taxes. New music Friday. This week we have some big hits from artists like Daddy Yankee, Farruko, Lunay, A.Chal, and Sebastian Yatra.

There’s a lot of great songs out this week. It feels like the Music Gods are making up for the relatively weak releases from last week with a ton of new tracks for us to sink our teeth into. Lets get it.

Problema – Daddy Yankee

Daddy Yankee is back. When you think about it, Daddy Yankee has been making music for almost 30 years now. Like Tom Brady, he hasn’t really lost a step. Problema isn’t one of the best Daddy Yankee songs ever, but it’s a very good track nonetheless. The music video is great in terms of visual spectacle. I always love when artists rep my favorite teams so I’m happy to see DY with the Mets hat here.

Sin Ropa – Lunay

Not my favorite Lunay song ever but’s a very solid single. It’s the kind of raunchy lyrics you would expect out of Lunay at this point laced over a reggaeton track. I’m a fan of it and I’m happy to have another Lunay single to slip into a playlist here and there.

Maybe don’t let your girlfriend see the album cover though. She might not love it.

Oh Mama (Premium) – Farruko, Myke Towers

First thought when this song came on, “Oh we got some saxophone action. Lets. Go.”. With the hot streak that Myke Towers has been on lately, any song with him automatically gets a listen. At this point Farruko is a legend of the game so he gets a listen too.

I was a little surprised by this track. It’s a lot more relaxed than I expected. Its a mood piece over a club banger. The saxophone was a little underutilized in my opinion but I still liked this song. It’s a good song to end the night on, instead of start.

Chica Ideal (Remix) – Sebastian Yatra, Guaynaa, will.i.am

This song has summer vibes written all over it. There’s a reggae/tropical vibe to the whole track. I did enjoy the Girl Like Me references from will.i.am in this track. (For more about him and the Black Eyed Peas crossing over into Latin music, read this post). The three artists work well together on this track. I like it. Definitely the song of track that will sneak onto your playlists and find a surprising amount of airtime.

Manantial (Remix) – Kevin Roldan, De La Ghetto, Mackie and others

God we’ve been missing a new 6 minute plus long remix for a long time now. Some of the best songs of the last 5 years have been relatively long remixes of previously unknown songs. Colombian Kevin Roldan is able to pull together a great mix of well known artists and newcomers for this track. This is a song that you get lost in and just enjoy for it’s full length.

Nobody Like Me – A.Chal

A.Chal continues to be one of the most underrated artists in Latin Music. In my opinion, he has an incredibly high upside for crossover potential. His first album was fantastic and full of bilingual hits. When I was in college, they were some of the deep cut staples of my playlists. People loved them. This song falls right into that same tradition. This will be on all of my playlists for the rest of 2021. I hope one of his songs eventually blasts through whatever barriers are ahead of it.

Increible – Andy Rivera

I wasn’t intending on writing about this song but I ended up really enjoying. That’s the beauty of New Music Friday I guess. Its barely two minutes but it really fills the time in an engaging and fun way. Andy Rivera isn’t a top tier artist in my mind, but he really makes some decent music from time to time. Give this song a listen, it’ll be a good use of two minutes.

Happy New Music Friday, now let’s crush the weekend.
