Another Friday, another blast of new music. This week we have great new tracks from J Balvin, Myke Towers, Rauw Alejandro, Alex Rose, and so many others. As we get closer to the summer and a return to normal life, the music is starting to heat up too. That being said, we have a lot of good tracks to talk about.
We will have a review of Piso 21’s new album soon. Keep an eye out on the blog for that review.
Tu Veneno – J Balvin
It’s no secret that I’m a gigantic fan of J Balvin. He’s amongst my favorite artists of all-time. This song is a bit different from Balvin in terms of content. It’s about the appeal of a toxic relationship. Balvin sings about how he poisonous he is for his girl but how much she likes it. This is the 2nd single off of Balvin’s forthcoming album that he says is “all about [him]”. I can’t wait.
Cuenta – Myke Towers
This is a song about the come up. Taking a bank account from zero to the moon. Towers goes hard on this rap track about a common theme, making bank. As he puts it, he went from an account with 0 to an account with many zeros. Towers is a musical stud and this song does nothing to change that. Maybe not a party hit but definitely the kind of track you’ll find yourself going crazy to in your car.
Me Fije – Alex Rose, Rauw Alejandro
As Rauw said himself, these two have been making music together since the Soundcloud days. Alex Rose’s Toda Remix is what introduced me to both artists. While this isn’t a sequel to Toda, it certainly captures a lot of the same elements that made Toda such a massive hit. Rauw is a certified star now and this song adds another great track to his repertoire.
Chico Estrella – Duki
I’ll be honest, if this wasn’t the first track of New Music Friday Latin, I wouldn’t have given it a shot. I don’t know Duki or any of his tracks. Well, I’m glad to say he got me. I’m all in on Duki now. This is a very good song and tells me that Duki has plenty of more hits in him. I’m a fan of this song and I’m looking forward to seeing what else is in his discography.
Como Tu (Dirty) – Chesca, Offset, De La Ghetto
People will be quick to assume this is Offset’s first Latin track but they would be wrong. Offset appeared with his (ex?)-wife Cardi B on the “Real Hasta La Muerte” remix of Ahora Dice in 2017. He does a good job featuring on this track. His style blends well with this mid-tempo reggaeton production. Reggaeton legend De La Ghetto gives a pretty average performance by his standards. However, his average performance is better than a lot of artist’s best.
Pasado – Carmen DeLeon, Cali Y El Dandee
Wow, I was not expecting this. This might be one of the best songs of the week. DeLeon absolutely steals the show here. Her voice is powerful and beautiful and the production of this track is top notch. There’s an epic feel to this track achieved through the slight echo effect. Each lyric is given incredible weight. Cali Y El Dandee do their jobs well here as well but DeLeon is the superstar here.
Te Acuerdas – Sech, Arcangel
Hand up, gotta admit something here. I’ve never been a huge fan of Sech. His style just doesn’t do it for me. This song doesn’t change that. Glad to see Arcangel on a track despite his dust up with Anitta over comments he made about women and modesty. The song is decent, but that’s about it. If you like Sech, you’ll like it more than I did.
There were some decent songs to come out this week which I didn’t think deserved their own sections. If you’re on Spotify and looking for some decent tracks check out the list below.
- Todo Bien – Natruits, Pedro Capo
- Judas – Bad Gyal, KHEA
- De Cero – Morat
- Turra – Cazzu, DJ Alan Gomez
- Sanga Zoo – Abraham Mateo, Farruko
