This week has given us a lot of new music. I mean A LOT. Bad Bunny, J Balvin, Maluma, Ozuna, and Nicky Jam all released new songs and that’s just the beginning. We have so much new music to go over, I love it.
Our review of Juanes’s new album Origen is here. We have a review of Natanael Cano’s new album up as well. We may also review Lenny Tavarez’s new album but that’s a TBD. I do need to sleep at some point.
Without further ado, let’s get it.
100 Millones – Bad Bunny, Luar La L
At this point it has to be said, a new Bad Bunny release is a cultural moment. Everything else takes a backseat. This is a return to roots for Bad Bunny. It’s straight rap and no punches pulled. You know when Bad Bunny shouts, “suck my dick” he’s not playing around on a track. Luar La L is pretty solid here. The Bad Bunny endorsement is enough to get him on my radar. Will report back when we see what he’s capable of.
Perfecta – Maluma, Reik
Whenever Maluma and Reik get together, it’s almost guaranteed to be a bop. This is no exception. This has all of the pop vibes needed to be a great summer song. Big fan.
¿Que Mas Pues? – J Balvin, Maria Becerra
Something tells me this is going to be a big hit. Balvin has pumping this song for a little while now and it lives up to the hype. Becerra is an up and coming star in reggaeton. This also marks her second straight week on this blog. Maybe she should make our list of the best new artists of the year.
Pikete – Nicky Jam, El Alfa
I think I’m going to have to admit that I’m not a big El Alfa guy. Hate to say it but I think its true. Nicky Jam carries this song for sure. Its not bad by any means but El Alfa doesn’t really offer anything you haven’t heard before from him. Unfortunately, thats just not something I enjoy.
Diablona – Ozuna, Onguito
I don’t know who Onguito is but I like what I’m hearing so far. This is a pretty addicting song from the duo of Ozuna and Onguito. It won’t make Maluma’s greatest hits album by any means but it’s still a very fun song to bump on a Friday night.
Love 66 – Farruko, CJ
Farruko isn’t retired yet. His latest release with CJ is great. I’m a big Farruko fan so it’s rare he puts out something I don’t enjoy. This is a rap track right up Farruko’s alley. it reminds me a lot of the stuff he put out around his Trapxficante album which is great. CJ seems to be making some real in-roads into Latin music which I can’t complain about at all.
Tas Bota – Milly, Juhn, Lyanno, Farruko, Lary Over
This was a fun song. I was expecting something a little heavier because the title reminded me of Te Bote. Once that got out of my head, I was into this track. It’s not some entirely unique or new but its one of those songs that will probably won’t get skipped if it comes on shuffle. But on the same note, it probably won’t get chosen on it’s own either.
XLEY – Dalex, Trey Songz
Not going to lie, this song almost lost me. But then Dalex dropped a McDonald’s reference and I was all the way back in. I think this is Trey Songz first adventure into Latin music (please correct me if I’m wrong). It’s not a bad debut for him but Dalex saves the track.
Wiki Wiki – Cauty, Mariah Angeliq
Mariah Angeliq is putting in the WORK. She probably read our post on the best new artist of 2021 so far and was pissed she didn’t win. She keeps killing it whenever she gets in front of a mic. In any other week, this would probably be in my top 3 songs of the week. Great track.
Elma Maria – Maffio, Darell, Don Miguelo
I almost didn’t write about this song but then Darell drops a Cachamba reference. Anyone who can drop a reference to one of the goofiest songs of all time deserves my attention. Don Miguelo shows up in this track after seemingly disappearing for years. I actually liked the song but will freely admit it is not the best thing we’ve ever gotten from Maffio.
