It’s New Music Friday and my body is READY. This week we have some blockbuster remixes and plenty of good tracks for your summer.
This week we have new songs from J Balvin, Jhay Cortez, Nicky Jam, Ozuna, Justin Quiles, Yandel, and many many more!
We also have a new album from Amenazzy and the soundtrack for F9 – the newest Fast and Furious move.
Fiel (Remix) – Wisin, Jhay Cortez, Anuel, Myke Towers
This came out on Wednesday so we got blessed early in the week with this. The great thing about this song is that it took one of the best songs of the year and added jet fuel to it. Adding in Anuel and Myke Towers is no small feat. In the age old question of which version I prefer, the remix takes the cake. Also if you haven’t read our review of Los Legendarios 001, read that here.
Poblado (Remix) – J Balvin, Karol G, Nicky Jam, Crissin, Totoy El Frio, Natan & Shander
Colombia in the HOUSE. One of my favorite things about J Balvin over his career, especially over the last few years, has been the way he puts on new artists. Balvin always uses his platform to elevate the next generation of artists. This is a fantastic example. This song is Colombian through and through.
Bounce Wid It – Chris Marshall, LATENIGHTJIGGY
Just based on the title, I was expecting something very different from this song. This is a song to almost fall asleep to on a hot summer night. Not great but I’ve heard much worse.
3 de la Manana – Mau y Ricky, Sebastian Yatra, Mora
Hand up, right off the bat I was interested in this. I’m a big fan of all of these artists. I named Mora my best new artist of the year not too long ago. This song isn’t a disservice to any of these 3 artists. It’s not the best song I’ve heard from any of them but it’s not bad either. It’s a good pop/reggaeton fusion that anyone can enjoy.
Dime Donde – Cazzu, Justin Quiles
Justin Quiles just doesn’t miss. This guy is like Ray Allen from 3. This is just another basket for him. Cazzu, who I think can be hit or miss, impresses here. This is just a very good song to jam out to.
Se Solto – DJ Nelson, Sammy,Lenny Tavarez
I’m happy to see DJ Nelson back in the game making new music. His recreations of classic reggaeton tracks have been great but I’m glad to see something original. This is a very good reintroduction to reggaeton and the music scene. Keep it up.
Cuanto Vale – Lenier, Yandel
This summer is missing an iconic Yandel song. Unfortunately this probably isn’t it. It’s a very fine song but it just doesn’t stack up to the things Yandel has put out in the past. Fun fact – I once went to a Yandel concert alone.
Rapido – Amenazzy, Farruko, Myke Towers, Rochy RD
One of the three big songs off the F9 soundtrack that we’ll talk about this week. This song is actually pretty good. I could see a few changes to the mixing taking this to the next level but this is a very good song, especially for a soundtrack. Everyone really kills their verses here
La Desean – Carlos Arroyo, Jowell & Randy, Brray
This is one of those songs that I didn’t love at first and I don’t think I’ll go back to much but I found myself bopping along to it as it went on. I think Jowell really puts this song on his back and saves it. I don’t love it but I still ended up vibing to it.
Mas De Ti – Gotay “El Autentiko”, Ozuna, Wisin
You would think that a song with Wisin and Ozuna would be a bigger deal considering their megastar status. This song was wayyyyy down there on Spotify’s New Music Friday Latin playlist. It’s a pretty decent track. It doesn’t rise to the level of Wisin and Ozuna’s Escapate Conmigo but it’s still pretty good.
Culo – Lola Indigo, Khea
Khea is another artist on the rise this year. His verse is pretty good in overall decent song. Lola Indigo (who I lowkey love) gave us 4 Besos last year which I thought was one of the best songs of the year. This is an infectious and fun song. I like what we’re getting from Lola. Also, she’s beautiful.
Furiosa – Anitta
Another one off of the F9 soundtrack, this song is actually really good. Anitta has an undeniable attitude on this track which I love. This is an addicting song that makes me want to get up and fight.
Quien Me Va A Roncar – Casper Magico. Arcangel, Juanka, Brray
This is probably the closest to old school reggaeton we’ll get these days. It’s a good track with an attitude from the streets. While this is New Music Friday, I feel like I’m going back in time like 15 years with this track. Not a complaint. The beatswtich in the middle helps to elevate the track as a whole.
Real – Justin Quiles, Dalex, Konshens
Unfortunately, even though I sang Justin Quiles’s praises earlier in this post, this song misses the mark for me. Of the songs we’ve talked about from F9, this is probably the weakest of the bunch. Quiles does what he can to help the track but he gets no help from the composition or the supporting cast. That’s a shame.
