It’s the weekend once again and thank god for that. If Throwback Thursday is the unofficial start of the weekend, New Music Friday is the gun at the starting line.
This week is loaded with new releases. We have new songs from J Balvin, Myke Towers, Camila Cabello, CNCO, Jay Wheeler, Natti Natasha, and many more. We also have a new album from Zion & Lennox (review). Chino & Nacho return with a surprise new album as well (review incoming). Bad Bunny also earns his first major producing credit on Tommy Torres’s new project (review).
Wherever I May Roam – J Balvin Metallica
Now we all know I’m one of the biggest J Balvin fans out there. This song is probably best enjoyed as a novelty. It’s more of a trivia question answer than a good song. “Name one artist that performed on the massive Black Album 30th Edition set – J Balvin”. I’ll leave it at that.
Toa La Noche – CNCO
Credit where credit is due, I wasn’t a big fan of CNCO’s last album but this song is a very surprising return to form. This a very solid reggaeton track with a lot of pop leanings. It’s a very enjoyable song to jam out to.
Dos Tragos – Jay Wheeler
This is a pretty standard song for Wheeler. It’s a basic reggaeton beat with some pretty basic lyrics. It’s hard to say anything more about it. This song is fine for what it is.
Almas Gemelas – Myke Towers
This strikes me as a song that was cut off Tower’s last album. It’s alright but nothing really special. It might be worth the listen if you consider yourself a big Myke Towers fan. Otherwise, pass.
Don’t Go Yet – Camila Cabello
I didn’t plan on reviewing this at first but Cabello really leans into her Cuban roots here. She gives a very good song here. It’s a pretty good blend of American tendencies with a Latin flair. Big surprise.
Tengo Fe – Feid
One of the bigger surprises of the week. This is the kind of song that I think Jay Wheeler wanted to make. There’s a unique sound to this. It has the introspective element that a lot of songs try to find, but struggle to authentically create. Love it.
Philliecito – Natti Natasha, Nio Garcia, Brray
A very solid reggaeton track from top to bottom. New mother Natti Natasha kills it here. Nio also steps it up to deliver a pretty decent verse. Good work all around.
Te Extraño – Ovy on the Drums, Piso 21, Blessd
A pretty surprisingly decent song. This came a bit out of nowhere to impress me. There really isn’t too much more to say other than it’s worth the listen and add to your playlist.
Festa Rica – Elvis Crespo, Rock-Aro
Elvis Crespo has this weird ability to be a beast on EDM tracks like this. His voice just has such a random ability to really knock it out of the park and Rock-Aro’s production is top notch. This was a major surprise. Add this to your playlist and you’ll be surprised by the response. This is the stuff New Music Friday is made of.
