The weekend is here once again ladies and gentlemen. New Music Friday has once again given us a ton of new songs to go through.
This week we have new songs from Jhay Cortez, J Balvin, Wisin & Yandel, Danny Ocean, Nicky Jam, and plenty of others.
If you’re looking for last week’s New Music Friday post click here.
En Mi Cuarto – Jhay Cortez, Skrillex
You put Mia Khalifa in a music video with one of the biggest stars in Latin music and you immediately have my attention. The video is awesome undoubtedly but the song itself is nothing to scoff at. This has all of the makings of a massive hit. It’s chill enough to listen to alone and vibe with but also the kind of song you put on at a club.
Tata (Remix) – Eladio Carrio, J Balvin, Daddy Yankee, Bobby Shmurda
Is this Bobby Shmurda’s first song since being released from prison? I think so? Well if so, welcome back Bobby. His verse is pretty solid. I hope he keeps working with Latin artists in the future. Daddy Yankee is clearly here with a chip on his shoulder. He has been back on the revenge tour lately and can’t say I hate it. Also, I’ve mentioned it before but Monarca was the first album we ever reviewed here so go read that review if you’d like.
Nirvana – Skepta, J Balvin
Hand up, I had no idea who Skepta was before this. If you’re in the same boat as me, you will also be surprised to know that he is very British. Not gonna lie, I’m kind of down with this song. I didn’t know what to expect but I liked it. Balvin does what Balvin does and delivers a very good verse here.
Ya Paso – Wisin & Yandel, Zion, Consculleua
I wasn’t expecting this song and therefore had no expectations. That’s a good thing because I almost definitely would have been let down. This group of artists is capable of much more than this. This is a pretty forgettable track if we’re being honest.
Apartamento – Danny Ocean
Danny Ocean kills is again this week. Ocean is one of the most unique artists out there right now and he’s always able to create such a unique sound. I’m a big fan of this. It hits on all of the right notes.
Miami – Nicky Jam
Maybe I’ve been underestimating Nicky Jam lately but this song is great. This isn’t really what I was expecting but I mean that in a very good way. This is one of the better songs from Nicky that we’ve gotten in a while. Worth the listen for sure.
YaMeFui- Bizarrap, Duki, Nicki Nicole
Bizarrap is really on his way to Tainy-esque levels as a producer. This guy just doesn’t stop working and putting out good music. This is a very solid reggaeton track that I can’t see many people objecting to if it came on at a party. I’m looking forward to the next projects we hear from Bizarrap.
Se Me Olvido – Gera MX, Rels B
Rels B is one of the most underrated artists in the game right now. He is a beast when it comes to putting out unique R&B fused tracks. This song is no exception. It mixes some typical Latin guitar beat with a slow, methodic R&B baseline, and some smooth vocals. I’m a huge fan. Love this track.
La Mama de La Mama (Remix) -El Alfa, Busta Rhymes, Anitta, CJ, Wisin El Cherry Scom
I hate this song. Really no other way to put it. Pretty terrible.
Mi Debilidad – Maria Becerra
This is a very solid song and a very good follow up to “Que Mas Pues” for sure. I almost skipped this on the New Music Friday Latin playlist but was glad to come back to it. Good stuff for sure.
La Boca Junta – Melendi, Mau y Ricky
This is pretty standard fare for these artists. It’s a light pop song that feels very similar to almost every other song that each has put out lately. If this is your cup of tea then perfect. If not, it’s still a good enough song that doesn’t deserve to be skipped.
Air Drop – Bryant Myers
Let’s get some trap in the mix. Bryant Myers hasn’t really released anything super notable lately but this feels like a return to form. It’s a good track for sure.
Dirty Dancin – A.Chal
Stop sleeping on A.Chal. It blows my mind that he is not a bigger star. He puts out great songs that play in both the English and Latin markets. This is just another example of that skill. I could see this playing at literally any bar right now. Give this man his respect.
Tranquilisimo – Israel B. C. Tangana, LOWLIGHT
Well, the C. Tangana of El Madrileño is certainly gone. Tangana is back to his experimental habits. This isn’t a bad song by any means. It’s unique and inventive. That’s what New Music Friday is all about. That being said, it might not be for everyone. Procced at your own risk.
