Without further ado, let’s get after it.
Bizarrap Session 52 – Quevedo
Is this the song of the summer? Well it has a fighting chance. I’ve had this song on repeat since it came out. Biza has put out so many incredible sessions but this one has to be right near the top along with Anuel’s and Eladio Carrion’s. I can’t say enough about how big of a fan I am of this.
Cafe Con Leche – Pitbull
I will say, I did laugh when Pitbull said that this “will sell more coffee than Starbucks”. The lyrics are as close to meaningless as possible but this song is a bop. It’s like the musical version of a Michael Bay movie. Just turn your brain off and enjoy the ride. Just like a Michael Bay movie, this would be pretty fun after a couple of drinks. Do with that info what you will.
La Loto – Tini, Becky G, Anitta
The trend of female artists teaming up for their own tracks continues and so does the success. This probably isn’t the most memorable song from this girls but it’s a good song nonetheless. I’m a fan.
Volare – Danny Ocean
Danny Ocean is one of the most cutting edge artists in the game. Singles like this show why. There’s a clear attachment to the mainstream but Ocean is unafraid to take his own route. It’s commendable, especially because it produces great songs like this.
Normal – Feid
I can get down with this. Feid has really established himself in the mainstream of latin music and songs like this are why. It’s a strong outing and good track.
Dame Break – Darell, Sech
This is the definition of okay. Nothing to blow your hair back but you’re not kicking it out of bed either.
Suelta – Jay Wheeler, Mora
If I had to choose a silver medalist for this week’s best new track, it would probably be this. I’m a huge fan of this song. Jay Wheeler and Mora are two of the best artists of this new generation and this song is a great example of why.
Los Cachos – Piso 21, Manuel Turizo
This is a great summer song. Turizo always delivers the vibes in just the right way. I’m a huge fan of this track. Just immediately added it to my summer playlist.
Epapale – Lunay
This is a different sound for Lunay. There’s a very slight dembow influence here that gives it more movement than a typical Lunay reggaeton song. It’s not going to be Soltera but it’s a good song nonetheless.
I See – Richard Orlinski, Nicky Jam, Tory Lanez, Jon Z, Preston Harris, Dawty Music
This is a lot lesser than the sum of it’s parts. Nicky Jam and Tory Lanez headlining a track should give it a lot more pop than it has. This is fine but feels like it should have come out in like 2013.
No Mas – Murda Beatz, Anitta, J Balvin, Quavo, Pharrell
This is another song that doesn’t live up to the sum of it’s parts. There are 4 world class artists on this track but the song itself doesn’t really reach the level it should. This should be the marquee single of the week and it’s far from that. A big letdown if we’re being honest.
Casa de Chapa – Tiago PZK
Tiago PZK is an interesting character. I feel like it’s hard to distinguish him sometimes. That being said, this song is still solid. I like it but I don’t really know what to make of Tiago.
24/7 – Juan Magan, Damariscrs, Envi
Not a fan.
For Sale – Gilberto Santa Rosa
We all need more salsa in our lives. This is a very fun change of pace that will get people moving. Which reminds me, I need to do a follow up on my Salsa Saturday series.
Rockstar – Domino Saints, Mozart La Para, D Smoke
I’m actually very surprised by how much I liked this song. It’s a sneaky banger. It’ll get stuck in your head without a doubt.
Layback – Sie7e, PJ Sin Suela
This songs makes me feel like I’m kicking back on a beach…in Super Mario. There’s a weird little motif in this song that reminds me of Mario. The song itself is otherwise forgettable but the Mario imagery is impossible for me to get out of my head.
