The weeks are flying by and just like that, summer is over. It’s New Music Friday once again and this week is LOADED with new music.

We have new songs from Daddy Yankee, ROSALIA, Yandel, Mora, Anuel AA, and plenty of others. We also have a new album from Jhay Cortez (reviewed here).

For last week’s post, click here.

Without further ado, let’s get going and on to our Labor Day Weekend.

Las Olas – Micro TDH, Yandel

While this is a song that makes you feel like you’re on a beach, it also feels oddly fitting as an end of summer song. The slower reggaeton tempo captures the heat of the Caribbean but also lets us feel a sense of relaxation. This isn’t a song for the beginning of the party but one for the end of the night where the vibe is much calmer. I’m a fan.

Toa La Vida – Nicki Nicole, Mora

Ladies and Gentlemen, let’s get the weekend started with a new song from two of the top candidates for Best New Artist of the Year. While Mora won the first half of the year, Nicki has put out a number of solid tracks throughout 2021. This is another notch in her belt. This is a pretty solid outing from both artists. I wouldn’t say it dramatically shifts the dynamic of the race but it certainly adds fuel to the fire. I suspect we’ll hear a lot from these two together moving forward.

Mal Acostumbrao – Mau y Ricky, Maria Becerra

Mau y Ricky have sneakily put out a ton of good songs over the years. This is a very solid outing from the duo. It’s not a song you’ll seek out but if it comes on shuffle, you’ll ride it out. Becerra is on the verge of breaking out as a major star and this song is a good step in that direction.

Daddy Yankee – Metele al Perreo

Daddy Yankee is the GOAT. No doubt about that. However, I don’t think this will be one of the songs that he’s remembered for. It’s the same reggae-ish sound that he’s given us ever since Dura in 2018. This sounds exactly the same as that, except not as memorable. Not great.

Linda – Tokischa, ROSALIA

I didn’t hate it as much as I expected but i didn’t like it.

Yo No Te Olvido – Cali Y El Dandee, Luis Fonsi

It’s really something that Luis Fonsi hasn’t produced a major hit since Despacito which is literally the most listened to song of all time. Talk about not being able to musically capitalize on something. Anyway, this song is decent. Nothing overly memorable or forgettable. Just a decent, good song.

Ley de Atraccion – Duki

Duki has got some talent, let me tell ya. This is a pretty good outing from the Argentinean artist. This is the kind of very solid song that will make him an artist to be reckoned with going forward.

Por El Alcohol – Brytiago, Nio Garcia, Casper Magico

I want to see Nio and Casper formally team up like Wisin & Yandel at this point. When these two are together, there’s a very good chance that it’s going to be a banger. This song is one of the better ones of this New Music Friday. It’s an elevated version of Brytiago’s typical style, with the big addition of Nio and Casper. Good stuff.

La Buena (Remix)- Nacho, Yandel, Justin Quiles, Zion, Elkeretumba

I think this wins remix of the week by default this week. This reminds me a lot of the remix of Vacaciones from a few years back. This a fun, beach themed song that makes me want to get down to the water one last time this year. It’s the early in the night companion piece to the Micro TDH and Yandel song we opened this post with.

Querer Es Poder – Lennis Rodriguez, Maikel Delacalle

I wasn’t expecting a bachata track here but let me tell ya, I’m here for it. This makes me want to grab a Dominican girl and hit up the dancefloor. Unexpected songs like this are what New Music Friday is all about folks. Good stuff.

Repetiamos – Abraham Mateo

Mateo’s last album was a big surprise for me. There were a ton of great songs on it. This is a surprise in the sense that it is a big departure from that pop style. This is a softer, reggaeton style for Mateo. It works pretty well if we’re being honest. I’m a fan for sure.

Desde Cero – Chucky73

After last week’s Bizzarap session, Chucky73 deserves a second look. This is a pretty good track if we’re being real here. If you’re into the lyrics and art of rap, then this is the kind of track for you. This will never be a song that is blasted at clubs but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a good song to kick back and enjoy.

No la Dejes Caer – Tito El Bambino, Hits Master Music

There was a long period of time where a new Tito El Bambino song would be major musical news and would be on the actual New Music Friday Latin playlist from Spotify. Either I missed it or he doesn’t command the same respect he used to. This is one of his better songs in a while and I hope this is his moment to turn it all around. Tito was one of the artists that got me into Latin music if you can believe that. Give it a listen and support this legend.
