Happy New Year! It’s somehow already 2022 and we’re still cooking ahead with a new (old) artist every week. This week we’re talking about Los Bukis.

Los Bukis was a Mexican group formed in the mid-70s by cousins Marco Antonio Solis and Joel Solis. By and far, the biggest star to break out of the group was Marco Antonio Solis (also the topic of our Throwback Thursday post in February 2021). Marco was one of the main writers of the band’s music and was responsible for many of it’s hits. The band’s name is slang for “cool”. It’s also an expression of respect and admiration. The group broke up in the mid 90s for Marco Antonio could pursue a solo career.

Overall, Los Bukis were together for 20 years and released 16 albums. While they broke up in the mid-90s, they reunited in 2021 and went on a reunion tour. The tour wrapped up in October 2021.

This week’s song is “Como Fui A Enamorarme de Ti”. Released as a part of their 1989 album “Y Para Siempre”. The song is a recollection of how the singer fell in love with the woman in the song. With just one look, the singer knew that he no longer owned his own soul. The love he found was powerful, and ran through him like poision through his veins. The singer doesn’t know how he came to fall in love like this when his love has proven so dangerous and painful to him. The composition of the track is the kind melodramatic 80s ballad that we love here at Pa La Cultura. This is the kind of track that your grandmother would love.

From 1989, “Como Fui A Enamorarme de Ti”.
