This week’s Throwback Thursday post is taking us a little further back than we’re used to. This week’s group is Los Tres Reyes.

Los Tres Reyes were formed in Spain in 1957 by twin brothers Gilberto and Raul Puente. The group carries a number of similarities to Los Panchos. Their style is described as “trio romantico” which, as you could probably guess, is three members performing romantic classics. A highly competitive scene in the late 50s/early 60s, the group spent a lot of their time in Mexico, competing against other trios. Playing a requinto guitar, they were able to distinguish themselves from other groups of the era. The group went on to sell millions of records, including over 10 million in 1958 alone. The group performed together for decades and decades until they retired in 2019.

This week’s song is “Que Nadie Sepa Mi Sufrir”. The song was originally composed in 1936 and has subsequently been recorded by dozens of artists throughout the years. The song was famously covered in French in 1957 by Edith Piaf under the name “La Foule”. This song has been covered dozens of times by tons of artists including Julio Iglesias, Los Lobos, and Jose Feliciano. This version was recorded by Los Tres Reyes in 1962. The song itself is about a person who finds out that their love was unfaithful. They do not want anyone to know their suffering because of their embarrassment and pain.

From 1962, “Que Nadie Sepa Mi Sufrir”.
