We’re somehow at the middle of the month already. This week we’re talking about Sergio Dalma, one of the best selling musical artists in Spain.
Born in Sabadell, Barcelona, Spain in 1964 as Josep Sergi Capdevila Querol, Sergio Dalma has gone on to a successful musical career in Spain. Dalma began his musical career singing in choir groups and eventually made it to a television show in Barcelona. Dalma released his first album in 1989. By 1991, he had been selected as Spain’s representative in the Eurovision song contest. His performance in the contest catapulted him to international stardom.
Dalma released a handful of albums throughout the late 90s. Arguably the height of his career came from 2008-2013 when he had 5 straight albums hit number 1 on Spain’s charts. Over the course of his career, Dalma has released 19 albums. Dalma has recorded songs in a variety of languages other than Spanish. He has songs in Catalan, Italian, French, and English as well.
This week’s song is “Esa Chica Es Mia”. This was Dalma’s debut single and shared the name with his debut album. “Esa Chica Es Mia” became a hit in Spain and Europe. The title translates to “The Girl is Mine”. The lyrics, unsurprisingly, are about Sergio making a girl his. As he describes, she’s nearly his and going crazier and crazier for him. The song itself is full of all of that late-80s flare and saxophone glory that you could dream of.
From 198, “Esa Chica Es Mia”.
