Happy Thursday. It’s officially Spring and the vibes are starting to warm up along with the weather. This week we’re traveling down to 1960s Argentina. Our artist of the week is Leo Dan.
Born in 1942 in Santiago del Estero Province, Leo Dan is one of the most popular New Wave Argentinian artists of all time. He began his career at the age of 20. He began releasing albums in Argentina throughout the 1960s. As the 1970s rolled around, Dan moved to Mexico and immediately made an impact in the industry. Since the 1990s, he has lived in the US.
The height of his career spanned from the 1960s to the 1970s. He recorded the majority of his hits in Argentina and Mexico. Dan was a major proponent of the “New Wave” genre of Argentinian music in the 1960s and 70s. In addition to being a successful vocalist, he was a very successful producer. Over the course of his career, he’s release over 20 albums.
This week’s song is “Libre, Solterito, y Sin Nadie”. Released in 1966, this single was one of the earliest releases of Dan’s career. The song itself is about being young and single. As the singer says, he’s young, single, and free, and so is the woman he’s talking to, so why shouldn’t they talk? The singer invites her on a walk, because he’s in a hurry. There’s a fun confidence in this track that I love. This is very fun song that still holds up to this day.
From 1966, “Libre, Solterito y Sin Nadie”.
