Happy Throwback Thursday. It’s basically the weekend so let’s enjoy it. Now if you’re like me, you’ve probably run into an ex or two when you’re out and about. Well, for those moments when you want to be super dramatic about it and turn your life into the equivalent of High School Musicial, we have you covered. This week’s Throwback Thursday post is all about Pimpinela and their 1982 hit Olvidame y Pega La Vuelta.

Pimpinela is a duo from Argentina, beginning their musical career in the late 70s/early 80s. Their real names are Joaquin and Lucia Galan. You probably noticed the same name and assumed they were married. Nope! They’re brother and sister. They’re one of the few brother and sister musical duos who aren’t children. Honestly, this knowledge really changes how I view their music. This week’s song is about a nasty breakup, which is kind of a weird topic for a brother and sister to tackle.

Olvidame y Pega la Vuelta translates to “Forget me and turnaround”. It’s a pretty fitting title for a song like this. The structure of the song is a dramatic back and forth between Joaquin and Lucia. The entire production is very theatrical. It feels like a scene out of a musical when you first listen to it Lucia tells Joaquin that he needs to forget her. He needs to forget go, forget her face, forget her house, and turn around. Again, remembering that this is a brother and sister duo, the line “forget my lips that no longer want you” really gives off some Luke/Leia vibes. With that in mind, I almost prefer the Marc Anthony/Jennifer Lopez version of this song.
