Happy Thursday. This week we’re talking about Argentinian singer, actor, and songwriter King Clave. Read on to learn more.
King Clave was born in 1944 in Formosa, Argentina as Jorge Ayala. He began his musical career at the age of 30 with a self-produced album. This album produced the hit we’re talking about later in this post. King Clave appeared in several TV shows that gave him international exposure. His career continued to grow throughout the 70s and into the early 80s.
Over the course of his career, he has released several albums, with his greatest success coming in the 1970s and 1980s. Funny enough, if you look at his Spotify his top song is, in English, “Men shouldn’t cry” followed by, “My Heart cries” and “You left me crying”. Guy likes to cry evidently.
This week’s song is one of those songs about crying. We’re talking about “Los Hombres No Deben Llorar”. Released in 1974, as I said before, the title of the song translates to “Men shouldn’t cry”. The lyrics are the heartbreaking tale of a man who is so heartbroken over the woman he loves leaving him. He can still smell the perfume in the air and even though, they say men shouldn’t cry, he can’t help but lose it as he thinks about her. Talk about a tale of heartbreak. There’s something raw about the heartbreak he describes. It’s the intersection of the desire of trying to keep it all together but knowing you can’t. Powerful stuff.
