Our 2021 Best Artist of the Year is here with the follow up to last year’s Vice Versa. This album is also the sequel to 2019’s Trap Cake Vol 1. More a mixtape than album, what did we think of it? Without further ado, let’s talk about the latest from Rauw Alejandro.

Of the songs I like on this album are “Museo”, “No Drama”, “Gracias por Nada”, and “Red Velvet”. My enjoyment of these tracks doesn’t really mean they’re hits. The closest thing to a runaway hit is “No Drama” which is just an “above average” track in my mind.

One of the most definitive elements of this project are the features from rappers. Future appears on a track as do Ty Dolla $ign and Shenseea. On “Fuck U X2” I really did not expect Future to really have more time than Rauw. That was a shock to me. Ty Dolla $ign’s role in “No Drama” didn’t surprise me based on his involvement with other Latin artists like Maluma. His appearance is probably the best of the 3.

There are a couple tracks that don’t fully hit for me on this release. “Wuepa” is a mixed bag at best. “Hackiao” just isn’t good if we’re being honest. Without talking too much about specific songs, the album generally doesn’t hit the levels that you would expect from someone obviously capable of dominating the industry. My reaction to this album was indifferent, which is not the reaction you want. I’m honestly disappointed in this project.

Final Thoughts

Rauw Alejandro gives us an ultimately forgettable album here. There aren’t many songs that you’ll take away from this as special. Most of the album is just fine, but barely moves beyond that point. Apathetic is probably the best way to describe my response to this project.
