New Music Friday 11/5 – Light on the Singles

New Music Friday is here once again ladies and gentlemen. This week is a little light on the singles but we do have plenty to talk about still.

This week we have new songs from Ozuna, Rauw Alejandro, Anuel AA, Luis Fonsi, and Pablo Alboran. We also have a new album from Dalex.

Without further ado, let’s get after it.

Señor Juez – Ozuna, Anthony Santos

If there’s one genre that Ozuna consistently surprises in, its bachata. This track is easily a new go-to for DJs at Salsa Fridays. This is a very good bachata song that will get a ton of airtime. Ozuna has really been putting out some lesser tracks lately but this is a big step in the right direction for him.

Bzrp Session 46 – Anuel AA

This is definitely one of the best Bizarap sessions ever. This song is a banger from start to finish. It showcases Anuel’s ability to tap into his artistic roots while it further shows Bizarap’s ability as a producer. This has some heavier lyrics than new audiences would expect from Anuel but this fits in with his earlier works. Overall though, this is a fantastic track and one of my favorite Bizarap releases.

El Lobby – Micro TDH, Pablo Alboran

This is a very simple song that doesn’t really do much for me if we’re being honest. Pablo Alboran is really under-utilized in my opinion here. Very forgettable.

Nuestra Balada – Luis Fonsi

If anyone ever had doubts that “Despacito” was an anomaly in Fonsi’s career, this is even more evidence of it. This is very slow ballad that shows a very soft side of the artist. It’s not a great ballad but I’ve heard worse.

Cachito – Danna Paola, Mau Y Ricky

This is a pretty solid track without a doubt. It’s nothing that’ll blow your hair back but it’s solid nonetheless. There’s a vibe to this song that reminds me of the song Mi Mala by Mau y Ricky. It’s a good song that’s worth your time.

Bien Chula – KHEA

This feels like a very mainstream attempt from KHEA. This is one of those songs that’s just like getting a hit in baseball. KHEA gets on base here. It isn’t a homerun but it’s still a solid piece of work.

Parao – Nio Garcia, Lua La L

Luar La L has really burst onto the scene over the last few months. I haven’t been blown away by any of his songs yet but this is another solid track from the young artist. Nio always puts out good stuff, even if it all generally sounds similar. If you like Nio Garcia, you’ll like this song. If you don’t, I don’t think this will be the track to win you over.

Ay Amor – Mike Bahia, Guaynaa, Ñejo

I keep giving Mike Bahia and Guaynaa chances to win me over. Maybe one day they finally will. They don’t give me much here that I can’t get from other artists in a better form. Their sounds are very nondescript when it comes to the broader picture of Latin music. I’ll add that adding Ñejo was a weird move here even though he wasn’t bad.

Living Life – Miky Woodz

Woodz is one of those artists who burst onto the scene when Latin Trap was at it’s height. He’s always put out some good stuff but in recent months and years he’s faded. This is the kind of song he needs to begin to rebuild his clout. This is a solid rap/trap track but it gets the job done.

X-Ray – J Alvarez, Jonna Torres

J Alvarez was, at one point, poised to be of the biggest new artists in Latin music. Since then, he’s obviously cooled a bit. This isn’t a bad song at all but it doesn’t reach the heights of his older songs. Hopefully he can find that magic again.

Lluvia y Samba – Elvis Crespo, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Alex Bueno

Talk about some OGs. If this came out 30 years ago, minds would have been blown. Coming out in 2021, however, it loses some of that appeal. This is a good, fun song still. You can definitely tell that each of these guys is approaching getting put in a retirement home in the next 10 years. They aren’t there yet but their fastballs haven’t been hitting the strike zone as much as they would have liked.
