Happy Throwback Thursday. This week we’re talking about Los Hooligans, a Mexican band founded in the 1960s. We’re getting a little granular here by choosing a short lived band but oh well.

Founded in 1960, Los Hooligans was comprised of Ricardo Roca, Enrique Ampudia, Luis Felipe Cisneros, Javier de la Cueva, and Humberto Cisneros. Their big break came as they won a radio competition in Mexico. The group was one of the most successful “rock en Español” groups to come out of Mexico in the 1960s. Los Hooligans were only together for 8 years, breaking up in 1968. The group released 4 albums together.

This week’s song is “Aguejetas de Color de Rosa”. The title of the song translates to “Pink Shoelaces”. It was the first single released by the group. The lyrics are about a silly girl who isn’t very smart or pretty but the singer loves to hangout with. She’s a fun girl who loves to party and loves to dress crazy. She has a big blue hat with feathers and shoes with pink shoelaces. It’s a pretty goofy song but a fun “rock en español” track to get down to.

The way I even found this song when I was visiting Jungle Jim’s, one of the greatest places in the world. In the Latin American section of the store, there was an animatronic figure named Pedro in a booth. Every 5 minutes Pedro would play a song and sing along to it. During one of my trips he was playing this week’s song of the week. If you ever get the chance to go to Jungle Jim’s, do it. It should absolutely be a bucket list item for anyone who likes food.
