Happy Throwback Thursday, ladies and gentlemen. This week we’re talking about Argentinian singer Amanda Miguel. And before you ask, no she is not related to Luis Miguel.
Born in Gaiman, Argentina in June 1956, Amanda Miguel was a popular ballad singer from the 1980s to the early 2000s. Miguel’s musical career started in large part due to another Throwback Thursday profile – Diego Verdaguer. Miguel joined a group named Mediterráneo at the age of 17 with Verdaguer. She would go on to marry Verdaguer later in life.
She would go on to leave that group for a solo career in 1980. Over the course of her career, Miguel would go on to release over 15 studio albums. The height of Miguel’s career would come in the 1980s when she released 5 albums, including this week’s song. Her last album came in 2015.
This week’s song is “Asà No Te Amará Jamás” which translates to “That Way I Won’t Love You Anymore”. The lyrics tell the story of a woman who is cheated on by a guy and is trying to find the courage within herself to curse the man. It’s about finding the respect in yourself to leave the person who hurt you behind. Miguel sings with a true power and tons of raw emotion. This is another one that’s going to be added to my sad hours playlist.
From 1981, “Asà No Te Amará Jamás”.
