Is it just me or are the weeks flying by? Like, how is it already October 7th? Well regardless, this week’s Throwback Thursday post is about Argentine-Venezuelan singer Ricardo Montaner.
RIcardo Montaner was born Héctor Eduardo Reglero Montaner in Argentina. When he was just six, he moved to Venezuela. As a child, he would perform in his church’s choir. Beginning his career in the 1970s, Montaner released his first single in 1976. It was not until a decade later that he would achieve widespread success in Latin America. During this time, he starred in a number of telenovelas which helped to fuel his career. He has released over 20 studio albums over the course of his career.
While Montaner is still active in the music industry, his sons have become major stars in their own right. His two sons have formed their own group named Mau y Ricky. His daughter Eva Luna is married to Colombian singer Camilo. Probably unsurprising but the Montaner family will have their own reality TV series, likely to premiere sometime next year.
This week’s song is “Tan Enamorados”. “Tan Enamorados” is arguably Montaner’s biggest hit. It comes off his 1988 album Ricardo Montaner 2, an album which helped launch his career in Latin America to new heights. This song, if you couldn’t guess is about being “so in love”. I have to imagine this was a lot of people’s wedding song. Lines like “I will accompany you beyond life” and “I will love you even more above” really speak to the timelessness we all hope to find in love. I’m nowhere near being married but I’m already penciling this in as a potential first dance.
From 1988, Tan Enamorados.
