Colombian star Sebastian Yatra is here with his latest album. Dharma is the 3rd studio album from the 27 year old artist.
Dharma gives us 17 tracks although a lot of the tracks have been released over the last few years as singles. Off the bat, what I love about the album is the huge amount of musical diversity on the album. There are ballads, reggaeton tracks, synth-pop, and plenty of other genres represented here.
Of the songs that I really liked on this album, there’s “Basicamente”, “Dharma”, “Si Me La Haces”, and “Modo Avion”. Like I said earlier, the strength of the album lays in the diversity of the genres represented. These tracks represent that diversity. “Modo Avion” and “Dharma” are some of my favorite new tracks of the year. “Modo Avion” really capitalizes on a lot of the retro/nostalgic vibes that we’ve been hearing but does it in a new and refreshing way.
There were a couple of misses. The songs that I didn’t really care for were “Las Dudas”, “Pareja del Año”, and … These songs aren’t bad by any means but they don’t live up to the quality of the other tracks on the project. I do also take a bit of an issue with how many singles are packed on to this album. Similar to my complaints about Enrique Iglesias’s last album, I don’t like when artists pack their albums full of singles released over the last few years instead of more heavily relying on new songs.
Final Thoughts
Dharma provides a wide range of quality music. Sebastian Yatra continues to position himself as one of the most important voices in Latin music and in Colombian music. There are plenty of great tunes to go around. The high amount of previously released singles makes me wish there was more new content but what we got was great.
Final score -7.9 /10
