Luis Miguel: The Series – Season 2, Episode 7 “Todo y Nada” Review

It’s the penultimate episode of Season 2 of Luis Miguel: The Series. This week’s episode delivered on some of the biggest storylines of the season. It also gave us an idea as to what we can expect in next week’s season finale.

So many things to talk about this week.

Let’s start with Robles. It looks like his plan actually worked. McClusky was fired and Robles was given the reigns of Luis Miguel’s career. McClusky’s firing was painful to watch because he’s been there throughout the entire series and without Hugo, he was supposed to be the one to take the lead. As much as I hated seeing McClusky go, Robles nearly had one of the best moments of the series when he delivered the contract to Micky’s grandmother.

Speaking of that moment, my guess is that interview will be one of the biggest focuses of the last episode. Robles wasn’t able to effectively close the deal, which completely showed their hand. It also gave Luis’s grandmother more than enough of a motive to go and talk to the press. Robles has been a fixer all season, albeit they’re problems he created, but will he be able to solve these problems?

The title of the Netflix Behind the Scenes for this episode, “Is Luis Miguel the villain of Season 2?” is a fitting question. The way that he interacts with the interviewer at the end of the episode gives some insight into that maybe his priorities aren’t where they should be, especially with Erika. The way he treats Sergio is also very reminiscent of how Luis Rey treats Micky in Season 1, even though it was part of a plan.

The episode ends with Michelle and Ambrosi getting together, which we all expected. This moment, however, could signal that Ambrosi’s relationship with Micky is coming to an end. It was good to see this tension resolve itself, but I don’t know that it will have the happy ending that we’re hoping.

Criticism

On a general note, one of the problems I’ve had with the series is that when characters leave, they’re gone. For example, when Alex left earlier this season, he hasn’t been heard from, despite how important he is to Micky. I fear the same thing will happen with McClusky. McClusky has been one of the most important characters throughout the series so his presence will be missed.

Another question I have, less of a criticism, is when will Mariah Carey show up? I know the answer is obviously next week but that also implies that next week will include a lot of set up for Season 3. The set up may take away from the emotional impact we’re expecting. I’ll reserve judgment until we see what next week brings.

Final Review

This week’s episode delivered important payoffs. We got some of the closure and emotional payoffs that we needed from this season from Michelle and Ambrosi, Luis firing Jose, and the payoff of Roble’s plan. Next week’s episode will have plenty of loose ends to tie up as well but I suspect will have a lot of set up for Season 3.
