Happy New Music Friday! If you haven’t noticed, we updated our graphic for New Music Friday posts. Read our update on the State of the Blog for some more information on the future of the site and this series.
This week we have a ton of new music. We have new songs from Don Omar, Sebastian Yatra, Eladio Carrion, Brytiago, CNCO, and many many more.
For last week’s post, click here.
Without further ado, let’s get after it.
Sincero – Don Omar
Don Omar’s comeback tour is in full swing. This song is a lot softer than you would expect from Don Omar. The signatures grit in his voice is absent here. It’s a pretty mellow track by his standards. It’s not bad but I also wouldn’t say it’s what you would expect from him.
Regrese – Sebastian Yatra, Justin Quiles, L-Gante
The ramp up to Yatra’s new album continues. Whereas the last few singles we’ve gotten from Yatra have been pop and cumbia, this is straight up reggaeton. Expect a lot of diversity on his new album. This is a pretty solid track. Quiles always delivers and L-Gante gives a surprisingly good performance. I’m looking forward to the album.
Buenos Dias – Wisin, Camilo, Los Legendarios
Well now I really want it to be summer. This song is the perfect track to enjoy as you drive to the beach or anywhere near the shore. This is all of the summer vibes to warm you up this winter. Great track. Easily one of my favorite of the week.
No Puede Ser – Mau y Ricky, Eladio Carrion
Just as I say that “Buenos Dias” might be one of my favorite songs of the week, this track comes up in the queue. I love this track. There’s a very fun, retro vibe to this track while still maintaining the fresh edge that it needs to stand out. This would be a great song with just Mau Y Ricky but Eladio Carrion brings it over the top. Fantastic song that’s going on all of my playlists.
La Toxica – Mariah Angeliq
One of our runners up in our ranking of The Best New Artist of 2021, Mariah is back with a pretty solid reggaeton track. It’s nothing to go crazy over but it’s a fun and enjoyable track. More of this and she’ll be well on her way to being one of the biggest stars in the industry.
Adicta al Perreo – Farina
I’ve never been a big fan of Farina’s voice. It’s always been a little weird to me. This song still works relatively well. I probably won’t listen to this again but I could see the appeal of it to others. It’s good but not for me.
Party, Humo, y Alcohol – CNCO
CNCO is back with a new sound. This is similar to that vintage, disco inspired sound that we heard on Mau Y Ricky’s new track. I like this a lot. I’ve always been a CNCO fan so I think this new direction is exciting for the band. If they live up to their word, 2022 should be a party for the group.
Sicaria – Brytiago, Ankhal, Luar La L
It’s about time we got some trap songs into this New Music Friday. Brytiago has a flow built for reggaeton and uses it perfectly in this trap song. I’m a big fan of this song. Brytiago hasn’t really lived up to the hype as one of the next big things in Latin music but more songs like this and he’ll be over the top.
Castillos del Arena – Pablo Alboran
This week just keeps providing us with more and more variety. Alboran gives a great ballad/pop track here. It starts off with a fantastic piano melody and then ratchets up the intensity. This reminds me of the great Marc Anthony ballads of the mid-2000s. Love it.
A Contracorriente – David Bisbal, Alvaro Soler
Shame on Spotify for burying this song so deep on their playlist. Soler and Bisbal make a great duo (Viva España). Their styles blend perfectly which makes for a fantastic song. I’m going to be bumping this for a long time to come. Love it.
Tranqui – iZaak, Jerry Di
I don’t have a ton to say about this song so I’ll just use this gif.
Problematico – Gera MX, Santa Fe Klan
This song is ass. I kept it on long enough to type that and skipped it. Not a fan.
El Jala Jala – Olga Tañon, Jon Z
We’ve had ballads, trap, and lots of reggaeton. Now let’s throw in merengue. Jon Z is not the person I would expect to fit in this song but he does relatively well. Love the energy here. I feel ready for the weekend now.
No Me Busques Mas – Angel Bleu, Silvestre Dangond
This song is a great fusion of cumbia and more urban sounds. I love the chemistry that Bleu and Dangond clearly have here. A very good song to add to your playlists this week.
Sakalakashanga – Harry Nach, Ñejo
Your guess on what the title means is as good as mine. I honestly did not have very high hopes for this song but it’s not as bad as I may have been expecting. New Music Friday is full of surprises and this song not being as bad as I was expecting is a welcome one.
Casualidad – Jay Menez
We’re rounding out the week with a pretty average and solid song from Jay Menez. Not much to say but this song is solid and worth the listen.
