I’m not going to be a lie, this isn’t the strongest week we’ve had for New Music Friday. There are certainly some good tracks but I wouldn’t say there are many AAA songs that you’ll need to rush to your Spotify to listen to. Now that you’re clearly super excited, let’s get into it.

Vacio – Luis Fonsi, Rauw Alejandro

What I really like about this song is that it can bridge generational gaps. My father doesn’t really care for the urban music that I like but he does like artists with softer edges like Luis Fonsi. This song plays to both artist’s strengths and the two have great chemistry together. Easily one of my favorite new songs of the week.

Donde Estas – Juan Magan

Where has this Juan Magan been? He’s been putting out good music but this song is just a straight up party track. Magan is going back to his fastball for this one and it’s great. We’ve been missing tracks like this from Magan lately. I’ve enjoyed his recent work but I enjoy this a lot more. Adding this to the Summer 2021 playlist immediately.

La Boca – Farina, Arcangel

Farina has always been hit or miss for me. Her voice sometimes sounds too nasally and whiny for my liking. That isn’t the case this time around. I’ve always like Arcangel so I was bound to like at least half of this song. I actually like the whole thing so that’s a bonus. A good reggaeton track to enjoy this weekend.

Vicitimas las Dos – Victor Manuelle, La India

Two of the biggest salsa starts of the 90s team up here for a solid salsa track. The salsa market isn’t what it used to be. There isn’t a huge deluge of new salsa tracks coming out every week for us to get excited to so we have to take what we can get here. This song is solid. I’m a fan of both artists. I won’t say it’s either of their best songs. It’s not a home run, but instead a hard hit single to the outfield.

Giro 360 – El Chulo, Farruko

I wasn’t originally going to listen to this son but the picture that came up for it on my Spotify was El Chulo in a Kyrie Irving Classic Nets jersey. That got my attention. I don’t know what I really expected from this song but I enjoyed it. Farruko delivers another great verse here and El Chulo does a good job holding up the track.

Legado – J Alvarez, Jonna Torres

J Alvarez returns with a very good trap song. He hasn’t released a lot of good tracks lately and he certainly isn’t at the height of his career. Maybe this track will be his way of turning things around. It’s a good song that I’ll have on repeat. I’m a fan of Alvarez so hopefully this is his first step back to hit making.

That’s all we have for this week’s New Music Friday. If you want to take a look at last week’s New music, click the link here. If you found any other songs that I should hear, send them my way.

P.S. Also read our musical history of Colombia. This took way longer than I wanted to so read it.
