We got started early this week with the new music. J Balvin released Ma G last Saturday while the remix of Wisin & Myke Tower’s Mi Niña with Maluma and Anitta came out on Wednesday. On Friday proper, we received new tracks from Natti Natasha, Anuel AA, Lenny Tavarez, Justin Quiles, and many others. This week was HEAVY on the new releases. Because of the sheer number of new releases, we can’t talk about everything we loved this week. There are plenty of other tracks that caught our attention beyond what we write about here.
With that out of the way, let’s get to it.
Ma G – J Balvin
This song dropped out of basically nowhere. I consider myself to be as a big of a J Balvin fan as anyone and I had no idea this was coming out. Since it’s been out for almost a week by the time this post will come out, I’ve had some time with it. It’s not my favorite J Balvin song, but I still like it.
Mi Niña (Remix) – Wisin, Myke Towers, Los Legendarios, Anitta, Maluma
Another early release this week, this song helps to revitalize a song that I feel went way under the radar. This remix made my summer playlist already. I’m a fan of all of the artists involved. It’s a great track from all of them. Anitta really shines here and really adds a great new edge to the song.
Selfish Love – Selena Gomez, DJ Snake
The first Spanish song from Selena Gomez that I actually like! The DJ Snake addition helps make this song a bonafide hit. Its simultaneously a track you can listen to if you’re sitting at home and also enjoy at a party. Selena’s Spanish is much more convincing here compared to her past few singles. If her EP has more tracks like this, then I might get a little excited for it. I talked about it last week with Farruko’s new song, but I love the fact that saxophones are making a comeback.
Aloha – Maluma, Beele, Rauw Alejandro, Mambo Kingz, DJ Luian, Darrell
Maluma is quickly becoming the king of tropical music. This song, with it’s reggaeton beat, brings urban titans together for a song that makes you want to kick back on beach and drink a zillion Mexican beers. Everyone brings it in this track. I love this song.
Conversacion Con Dios – Anuel AA
Anuel has really moved into the phase of his career where he’s reflected on his life and career. This song, which translates to Conversation with God, is all about reflecting on what’s important and what’s worth fighting for. This song is a remake of an older Anuel song. It’s catchy and memorable and one of the better songs that Anuel has released lately.
Solo Remix – Jay Menez, Rauw Alejandro, Nio Garcia, Amenazzy
This song hooked me immediately. Whoever produced this song knew exactly what they were doing by assembling this cast of artists. Everyone’s voice and style compliments one another in such an impressive way. It’s a masterful production. The song hits all of the marks that you want an urban song to hit.
Las Nenas – Natti Natasha, Cazzu, Farina, La Duraca
Ladies, this one is for you. This song is all about getting down with the girls. Songs like this can tend to get a little corny and obnoxious. This one doesn’t by any means. It’s a great party track. I can see this song coming on that the club and all of the ladies hit the dance floor. Its a song by the girls, for the girls.
Hickey – Rich Music LTD, Dalex, Justin Quiles, iZaak, Dimelo Flow
I was really excited when I saw this song on the New Music Friday Latin playlist. Rich Music LTD’s EP from last year was pretty good. Justin Quiles is one of the most underrated artists in the game in my opinion. I also like all of the others involved in this song. The result though? Eh. It’s an okay song, but it’s nothing special. Honestly, it’s not something that I would likely even go back to. This song just doesn’t have much to grab onto, which is sad.
Perdiendo El Control – De La Ghetto, Marco Acevedo
De La Ghetto continues to prove that he can master any genre. This song definitely has an EDM/Dance vibe to it. I’m a big fan. This is the kind of song that makes you want to turn the bass up and start moving. It’s simple but deeply enjoyable. Good for De La Ghetto. The man just keeps making hits.
F is For Friends – Trevor Daniel, Becky G, Tainy
This song is a new, urban take on the classic Spongebob bit. It would be a fine song if it wasn’t a song for a Spongebob movie. This song feels too sentimental and reflective to be a Spongebob song. Honestly, it makes me feel old. It doesn’t succeed in remixing a classic Spongebob tune like J Balvin’s Aqua does. This just bums me out a bit. Decent song but the context negatively affects what it becomes.
Venganza – No Te Va Gustar, Nicki Nicole
I didn’t know who No Te Va Gustar were before this song so I wasn’t expecting a rock song right to the face. It’s just pure rock n’ roll. Unlike old rock songs, the band handles a feature from Nicki Nicole perfectly. She adds a different spark to the song and takes it in a direction that shows the depth of the track. I didn’t know what to expect going in, but I really really enjoyed this song.
Enjoy the weekend, we’ll be back with more posts soon!
