It’s Friday (well it was, sorry I’ve been traveling for work) and that means new music. Let’s break down some of the biggest and best songs of this week’s newest releases.

De Una Vez – Selena Gomez

This opinion might get me in trouble but this song just kind of stinks. It’s not the worst thing I’ve ever heard by any means but it’s very clear that Gomez does not naturally speak Spanish. This isn’t to bash her for trying, which we clearly appreciate, but it does not aid the song. Evidently she’s sang in Spanish before but it clearly is not a natural thing for her. She apparently has a Spanish language album coming out soon which, I hope, is better than this single. The existence of that album speaks to how strong music in Spanish has become which is a very welcome sign for the culture and the industry.

Fantasia Sexual – Myke Towers, Lunay, Rauw Alejandro, Brytiago

A great collab between four of the brightest young starts in urban music. Brytiago is arguably the old dog amongst these four as I’ve been hearing his stuff for at least the last 4 or 5 years. His debut, at least to my ears, was a 2016 super collab with Daddy Yankee and a TON of other artists titled Altera Roja which is 10 and half minutes long. I’ll include that below. Anyways, I’m a huge fan of Fantasia Sexual. It’s great to see these young artists work together and support each other. This is a song we’ll be coming back to in a few years when all four of these artists are leading the culture.

Antes Que Salga El Sol – Prince Royce ft Natti Natasha

Coming into the week this was my most anticipated song. It lived up to the hype. I’m a huge fan of both artists. This track will be a great track for the summer. I can just see sitting out in the sun with a nice drink as this plays. Or maybe I’m day dreaming because I’m currently inside, look outside where there’s snow and its in the mid-20s. Either way, this song, with it’s simple beat, will be a great slower tempo song to just relax to.

Comerte Eterna – C. Tangana, Soolking

C. Tangana is always pushing the boundaries of music. While he may not be a mainstream artist who hits heights like Bad Bunny or J Balvin, he is just as important to the genre as an artform. Tangana’s usual approach of combining old Spanish bolero and guitarra melodies with trap, reggaeton, and R&B beats works wonderfully here. He continues to push boundaries while delivering a wonderful song. I have a special appreciation for his ability to blend the new and old to create a new chapter in Latin music.

Cosita Linda – Jencarlos ft Pitbull

Jencarlos is another artist who generally flies under the radar but produces a lot of great songs. His discography is deep with great songs that are a ton of fun to listen to. Pitbull, obviously, is one of the most prolific artists in all of Latin music history and probably even mainstream American music as well. The two team up here for a song that’s fun and sexy and will go great on anyone’s summer playlist.

P.S Sorry for the lack of posts over the last few days. This next week will be a bit slower as well but after that I should be back to normal.
