For many of us, we first heard of Mora when he appeared on Una Vez with Bad Bunny off of his record-breaking 2020 album YHLQMDLG. Mora’s first solo album Primer Dia De Clases gives me the feeling that we’re going to hear a lot more from him.
Primer Dia De Clases is a strong debut from the Puerto Rican singer. Pegate (Remix) and 512 with Jhay Cortez Desparecer, Cuando Sera with Lunay, and No Digas Nada with Farruko are some of the biggest highlights on this album. All of the tracks on this album are enjoyable reggaeton/urban tracks. Of the 16 tracks on the album, I enjoyed about 10-12 of them. This release is definitely filled with cuts that will find their ways onto a lot of DJ’s sets.
The only real criticism I have of this album is that we don’t experience Mora’s range. While all of the songs are enjoyable, they’re all relatively similar. I imagine as his career goes on, we’ll hear more of Mora’s range but that isn’t really evident here. And while a lot of the tracks will find their way onto playlists for those already in the scene, I can’t see too many of these tracks becoming major hits in the mainstream. I could end up being very wrong on that point, and I hope that I am.
Overall, this is a strong debut album from Mora. He hits a lot of the right notes and establishes himself as one of the best up and coming artists in the genre. Hopefully Mora can build on the successes of this album and deliver even better music in the future. I think he will.
Final score – 7.7/10
