Well it’s time to close out October already. This month has flown by. This week we’re talking about Ana Gabriel.

Born in 1955 in Sinaloa, Mexico, as Maria Guadalupe Araujo Yong, Ana Gabriel began her musical career in 1974 at the age of 18. At the age of 21, she released her first single. Despite the stage last name of Gabriel, she has no relation to the legendary Juan Gabriel.

Over the course of Gabriel’s career, she has released 22 studio albums and 3 live albums. Her musical style has ranged from mariachi to mainstream Latin pop. Her musical career exploded throughout the 1990s with Gabriel releasing an album almost every year. Gabriel’s gravely, sensual voice gave her a unique position in Latin music. She was able to carve her own lane. Pride in her home country of Mexico gave her a unique lane for her music. It also allowed her to work with artists such as Juan Gabriel, Vicente Fernandez, and other Mexican legends.

This week’s song is “Quien Como Tu”. Off of the album of the same name, this is one of the most popular tracks from the Mexican artist. The album itself was a major hit and one of the biggest albums of her career. The song itself is great as well. Its the kind of song that you belt out together at a concert and shout whenever you have the opportunity. Telling someone how lucky they are to experience the love of someone the singer was once with.

From 1989, “Quien Como Tu”.
