This week for Throwback Thursday, we’re talking about one of the most prolific Latin artists of the last few decades – Chayanne. While he has a ton of hits, crossing tons of genres, we’re going with one his early pop hits Provocame.

Born Elmer Figueroa Arce (which is arguably a cooler name than Chayanne), Chayanne grew up in Puerto Rico as the 3rd child of sales manager and a teacher. Chayanne received his stage name from his mother. Chayanne grew up loving the old western show Cheyenne which is where his stage name comes from. He began singing at a young age. So young, in fact, that he was turned away from joining Menudo because he was too young. He joined a group called Los Chicos and eventually went solo in 1984.

Over the course of his solo career, he has released 21 studio albums spanning 4 decades. He’s also appeared in a handful of movies and TV shows including the 1998 film Dance with Me with Vanessa Williams. Random fun fact, his niece (via his wife) is Lele Pons. Yes, that Lele Pons. Small world.

While there are plenty of songs we could go with this week, we’re going with 90s-tastic Provocame. This song has it all. The saxophone, the dance moves, the wardrobe. What more could you ask for?

The video really puts this over the top. A few weeks ago we talked about Luis Miguel’s Ahora Te Puedes Marchar being a potential TikTok trend. I think Provocame takes beats it out here. Just imitating the outfits and moves from this video would be amazing. I can’t get enough of this track. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

From 1992, Provocame.
