October is basically here. Don’t know where the time went if we’re being honest. Regardless, this week we’re talking about Pedro Fernandez and the song that launched him to international stardom. His birthday is on 9/28 so happy belated birthday to him.
Pedro Fernandez was born Jose Martin Cuevas Cobos in 1969, in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. Fernandez adopted his stage name as a tribute to two of his favorite Mexican artists – Vicente Fernandez and Pedro Infante. He isn’t related to either, despite the stage name. Fernandez has had a long career in both music and film.
At the age of 7, Fernandez began acting in films which gave him some instant fame. He began recording music around the same time, with Vicente Fernandez being so impressed by his skill at a young age that he helped him land his first contract. The key to Fernandez’s success has been his ability to adapt to different styles over the years. Beginning as a ranchera singer, he has also had hits in other genres like pop and romantic ballads. Over the course of his career he has released 39 albums and starred in 7 soap operas and 25 films.
“Mi Forma de Sentir” was the song to launch Fernandez into international stardom. This song, the titular track off of his 1994 album, is a romantic ballad dedicated to a far off lover. The lyrics describe, beautifully, how only she knows the way he cries, the way he laughs, and the way he loves. Despite their distance, the singer says that once they come together again, he won’t let her go. Without knowing her love, his life wouldn’t have meaning, as he says. It’s a beautiful and romantic track.
From 1994, “Mi Forma De Sentir”.
