Sofia Reyes is here with her sophomore album. The Mexican artist gives us 17 tracks here on her first album in 5 years. What do we think? Well let’s get into it.

There’s a ton to love here. There are plenty of things to like from the new songs. Of the new songs, I really like “La Bachata”, “Marte”, “24/7”, and “Palo Santo”. “Palo Santo” was the biggest surprise of the album. Having listened to Reyes for years, this is one of the most unique tracks on the album and of her career. “Marte” being utilized as the lead single of the album is also a fantastic decision. This will be everywhere in the next few weeks.

The previously released singles are all verified hits. These singles represent some of the highest parts of her career so far. I don’t really need to get into tracks like “R.I.P” or “A Tu Manera” because these have been around for a minute now.

My main complaint with this album, as I’ve had with several others lately, is that a lot of the songs aren’t exactly new. 8 of the 17 songs have been released before as singles. “1,2,3” came out in 2018, for example. This isn’t as much of a dig against Sofia as it is the entire industry. A new album should be at least 70% new music, in my opinion.

There are a couple songs that don’t really hit for me. For example, “Amigos” and “Limones” don’t live up to the rest of the album.

Final Thoughts

Sofia Reyes delievers a fantastic new album with Mal de Amores. This is a major improvement over her debut album. It shows us so many new sides of the artist. This is one of the best albums of the year so far. Looking forward to even more from Reyes moving forward!
