Ladies and gentlemen, it is New Music Friday once again! Here in the Midwest we’re getting crushed with snow so the new tunes are more than welcome.
This week we have new music from Maluma, Jennifer Lopez, Rosalia, Manuel Turizo, Prince Royce, Farruko, De La Ghetto and more!
For last week’s post, click here.
Without further ado, let’s get after it. Also, heads up, I’ve had a few drinks so keep that in mind.
Marry Me – Jennifer Lopez, Maluma
To be honest, it’s hard to pass too much judgement on this song without seeing the movie it’s in. The context matters here. It’s not a bad song without that context but I’ll reserve judgement until the final product.
SAOKO – Rosalia
So I guess it’s fair to say Rosalia’s new album will not be a flamenco based album. This song is a weird jazz/alternative combo that makes me really question what I can expect from her new project.
De 100 a 0 – Manuel Turizo
Every New Music Friday we get some songs that help redefine what we expect from an artist. This dance song makes me expect more than Colombian pop and reggaeton from Turizo. I’m a big fan of this track. It shows an eye toward the mainstream and party music from the Colombian artist.
Alcancia – Llane, Reik, KHEA
This is a great fastball right up the middle. Imagine being at the plate and getting a 97mph fastball right past you. That’s what this song is. It’s nothing super special but it’s enough of a song that it hits it’s target with flying colors. It’s very good but not great because it tracks over previously covered ground.
Enchulao – Beele, Blessd
This track has big time late night driving vibes. I could see me jamming out to this while I’m driving home from wherever on a Friday or Saturday night. Blessd is a beast who puts out tons of jams. This is another great addition to his discograpgy.
After Party – Alex Sensation, Farruko, Prince Royce, Mariah Angeliq, Kevin Lyttle
A remix of Kevin Lyttle’s “Turn Me On”, this is a great song for anyone’s playlist. This is everything anybody needs to make a classic modern. If I were in college, I’d play the original version of this song and then this song back to back to really keep the people going. If you’re looking for a comparison, look at Anuel’s China for a similiar comparison. This song makes me want to rip some cigs outside of a bar tbh.
Restart – vF7, Lele Pons, Ninow y Candy
I really dig the rock/punk rock vibe of this song. This is a pretty good track for any Latin rock fan in the area. I’m definitely a fan of the effort put forward here.
La Cartera (Remix) – Rafa Pabon, De La Ghetto, Dalex
What hits me right off the top here is how much I like Dalex’s flow. This is a really good mellow track that Dalex carries with his voice. He doesn’t let anything else lead the way, he does it himself. De La Ghetto gives a solid verse but it’s not enough to say he carries the song.
Now – Rusherking, Tiago PZK
Tiago PZK is one of our artists to watch for 2022. Songs like this are why.
La Lluvia – JT the Producer, Mozart La Para, Chimbala
Mozart La Para has always been hit or miss for me. This probably leans more on the miss side of things. This isn’t bad by any means but it doesn’t live up to everything it could be. It’s a fun song that could have been a hit.
1942 – Jory Boy, Kevvo
Jory Boy used to put out some huge hits back in the day. He was one of the young bulls I liked listening to in like 2015. He hasn’t really put out too many hits since then. This is a pretty solid track though. This is hopefully his way to get back on track. Good stuff.
Currambera – Carlos Vives
Carlos Vives is a legend. Plain and simple. He’s one of the greatest ambassadors for Colombian music on the global stage. He backs his advocacy for Colombian with songs that truly capture his love for his country. This is one of those songs. I’m a big fan.
Decidete – Dani J, Bachata Heightz
This song just sounds like summer. If there’s something that Bachata Heightz knows how to do, it’s capture the essence of bachata in their songs. This makes me want to get up and dance, even though I have next to 0 ability to dance bachata.
