What a year it’s been. We started this blog back in January and have put out over 35 albums reviews since then. We’ve given every album a score just for moments like this. Choosing the best album isn’t easy, but that’s why they pay us the big bucks.
If you disagree with our rankings then sound off in the comments. If that’s not good enough for you then start your own blog.
Without further ado, in order from 5 to 1, let’s talk about the very best albums that came out in 2021.
5. KG0615 – Karol G
This is album won a three way tie with the La Playlist de Anoche from Tommy Torres and Dopamina from Manuel Turizo. Karol G is one of the biggest stars of the year and this album deserves all of the praise. With KG0615, Karol G cemented herself as the Queen of Reggaeton.
“KG0516 is one of the best new albums of the year. Karol G shows us a wide range of musical ability and further establishes herself as the Queen of Reggaeton. This album is going to clean up at award shows and on the charts this summer.”

4. #7DJ (7 Dias En Jamacia) by Maluma – 8.5
One of earliest reviews on this blog, this has held on to one of the top spots on our site all year. One of the best Maluma releases to date, this is fantastic album.
“Overall, for a surprise release, this is a great outing for Maluma. It’s a new genre for him to dominate and his first entry lives up to what you would expect. This album will be played on repeat this summer on beaches across the globe.”

3. Timelezz by Jhay Cortez 8.6
Jhay Cortez’s latest album is an aboslute heater.
“Jhay Cortez delivers a really special project here. This album perfectly captures his style and his place in the broader scope of Latin music. This album is rich with great songs and only a couple near-misses. There’s so much to enjoy here. To use a Kobe reference, this feels like his first ring in 2000. There’s plenty of greatness still to come from Jhay Cortez.”

2. Origen by Juanes – 8.7
Juanes nearly wins the coveted album of the year but comes in second with his covers album. For months, I thought this was a lock for the best of the year.
“Juanes is a king of making any song his own. Blending styles while leaving his undeniable mark on each track is no easy feat but Juanes is able to manage it all on his own. With few misses, this album is solidly one of the best of the year.”

1. La167 by Farruko – 8.8
Our best album of 2021 came to us on October 1st.
“Farruko gives us a lot to go through in this album. 23 new tracks and 1.5 hours of new music can almost be overwhelming. However, he doesn’t sacrifice quality for quantity. This album has something for almost everybody. There are world-class reggaeton tracks, EDM bangers, trap hits, and danceable salsa songs in one album. This is really something to behold. La167 is easily one of the best albums of the year.”
